Julia Roberts and Clive Owen Reunite on Stage at the César Awards—Before She Forgets Something Important
Even Hollywood legends can have forgetful moments, and Julia Roberts proved just that during a milestone evening in Paris.
On February 28, the Academy Award-winning actress, 57, was honored with an Honorary César Award at the 50th César Awards, France’s equivalent to the Oscars, for her decades-long contributions to cinema.
To make the night even more special, her longtime Closer and Duplicity co-star Clive Owen took the stage to present the award.
A Forgotten Speech and a Heartfelt Moment
After stepping onto the Olympia Theater stage to accept the honor, Roberts admitted to a last-minute mishap.
“My incredible daughter told me to write a speech,” she confessed. “But I have never written a speech about myself. It was a complex thing to do, and I finally did it. And then, um… left it at my hotel.”
Despite the oversight, she expressed deep gratitude:
“Thank you to the Academy for this incredible piece of art. Any artist knows this is not a singular endeavor, so to stand here alone is a fraud.”
A Standing Ovation and High Praise from Clive Owen
Before delivering her speech, Roberts received a warm standing ovation from the audience, celebrating her iconic career.
Clive Owen, 60, introduced her with admiration:
“Julia Roberts is not just a movie star—she is a cultural icon. Her influence goes far beyond her performances,” he said.
He also highlighted her on-screen magic, stating:
“She is often said to have great chemistry with her co-stars because she makes them better. I know this on a personal level.”
Before handing her the award, Owen affectionately called her:
“One of the best, nicest, and funniest actresses of our time.”
Another Prestigious Honor in Paris
Before the César Awards, Roberts was also knighted by the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Tati, receiving the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters).
As reported by WWD, the minister personally pinned the prestigious medal onto Roberts’ blazer, recognizing her profound impact on film and culture.
Family, Legacy, and What’s Next
Roberts’ Hollywood legacy even resonates within her own family. Last summer, her niece, Emma Roberts, revealed to Variety that Julia’s films are her comfort watch.
“I watch her movies when I’m on location and by myself. I have them downloaded on my computer for comfort. My Best Friend’s Wedding and America’s Sweethearts are my safe movies,” the Scream Queens star shared.
Looking ahead, Roberts’ next film, After the Hunt, is set to premiere on October 10, 2025.
Even without a speech in hand, Julia Roberts once again proved why she remains one of Hollywood’s most beloved and celebrated stars.
