Country music stars Jason Isbell, 46, and Amanda Shires, 43, have officially finalized their divorce, more than a year after Isbell first filed.

According to court records viewed by PEOPLE, their case was marked as disposed on March 4, 2025. Isbell initially filed for divorce in Tennessee on December 15, 2023, citing irreconcilable differences after nearly 11 years of marriage.

A Difficult Split and Moving Forward

The couple, who share a 9-year-old daughter, Mercy, had reportedly struggled with maintaining a work-life balance, as well as differences in career success. In a previous interview with the Wall Street Journal, Isbell emphasized that infidelity was not a factor in their breakup.

“We weren’t plate-throwers, and we weren’t yelling in front of the kid… It got to the point where, if something really good happened to me, I wouldn’t even mention it, because I knew it would hurt her. It made the atmosphere unbreathable for a while,” he said.

Despite the emotional challenges, Isbell told PEOPLE in February 2024 that he and Shires were “getting along right now.”

“It’s hard and sad, and I don’t enjoy it, but… I’m in a good place,” he shared. “Mercy’s happy. She knows, no matter what, she’s going to be loved and safe and cared for.”

New Beginnings

Following the divorce, Isbell began dating painter Anna Weyant, 29, in February 2024 after discovering her work in GQ Magazine and reaching out. She also created the cover art for his latest album, Foxes in the Snow, released on March 7, 2025.

Weyant praised the album on Instagram, calling it “painfully beautiful and brilliant,” to which Isbell responded, “I truly can’t thank you enough ❤️.”

Despite the end of his marriage, Isbell has no intention of avoiding the songs inspired by his relationship with Shires.

“Once I was done writing those songs, they didn’t really belong to me anymore,” he explained. “Just because something ended doesn’t mean it failed.”

A Musical Legacy

Isbell and Shires married in February 2013 and frequently collaborated, with Shires playing fiddle and singing backup for Isbell’s band, The 400 Unit, while Isbell played guitar for her country supergroup, The Highwomen.

Their artistic and personal journey may have taken different paths, but their music remains a testament to their shared history.
