‘Harry Potter’ actor is on the list of individuals suspected of tax evasion, announced by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) on the morning of May 10.
In the early morning of May 10, the list of individuals suspected of tax evasion was announced by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) along with the entire Panama Papers. Actress Emma Watson is on this list. The information was discovered by the British newspaper The Spectator.
Emma Watson’s spokesperson confirmed that the 26-year-old actress had set up an offshore company. However, she did not receive any tax or profits. She used the company for private purposes.
“Emma Watson (like many other celebrities) set up an offshore company for the sole purpose of protecting her identity. UK companies require her to disclose shareholder details and do not allow her to hide her real name to protect her safety. Offshore companies, on the other hand, do not disclose shareholder information. Emma receives absolutely no tax or profits from any offshore company. It is a matter of privacy,” Emma Watson’s spokesperson said in a statement.
Setting up an offshore company is not illegal. The Panama Papers were obtained from the law firm Mossack Fonseca, which contains all of its client data. No other Hollywood figures have been implicated.
