If the start of a season is the time to proclaim an athlete in the best shape of their life, the middle of the offseason is the time to start worrying whether a star player is letting himself go.
Enter Tua Tagovailoa and a viral video of him shirtless on a boat, which you can see here. The Dolphins quarterback is giving off serious dad bod vibes, which Patrick Mahomes has proven is far from a bad thing.
Tagovailoa, appearing to party with family or friends, seems to be having a beer and enjoying himself. The coolest part of this social media posting, honestly, is that most people have jumped to Tagovailoa’s defense.
One reply reads: “Extremely out of shape? Gimme a break. He’s a young successful guy enjoying himself on vacation with his family. Many of these guys are just now starting offseason workout programs.”

Another really goes for it: “Whoever thinks this is out of shape you must have no experience with Polynesians. A 300lb bradda from Wainae will climb up a coconut tree, throw down 3 coconuts, jump down, open and prepare them for consumption using only a rock and a stick, run the 40 in 4.6 in the sand, then chug two Heinekens before paddling out to bodysurf a 20ft wave.”
Still another: “Tbh most great QBs have a little bit of a dad bod. Just enough athleticism to move, with the strength to throw the ball deep and fast.”
There are plenty of other commenters who wrote something to the effect of, “Man, I wish I was out of shape like that.”
And maybe the smartest reply to the video of Tagovailoa, though, is this one: “Best QB in the league chugs Coors and has a dad bod, who cares?”
Reminder, folks, it’s March. And the most important section of Tagovailoa’s body besides his left arm is his head and brain.
