Planning to reclaim the gold they found, the father and son of a Chinese farmer were arrested by the police for investigation.
One day in 1980, an old man named Duong from Binh Lo, China went up the mountain to cut firewood as usual. However, because the weather that day was very hot, this old man decided to go to a small cave nearby to rest.
In the dark cave, Mr. Duong looked around and discovered a light flickering at the bottom of the cave. Curious, the old man approached and was surprised to discover gold bars with strange inscriptions hidden behind rocks. After an initial confusion, Mr. Duong began to suspect who hid such a large amount of gold in this cave.
However, when faced with such a large fortune, this old man, who had never been rich, put aside all worries and questions about it and brought all the gold home. However, Mr. Duong’s joy soon ended when his son suspected that the gold he found might be fake or just bronze. After carefully asking about the information about the gold, the boy advised the old man to temporarily bring a bar to the gold shop to check.
After observing and checking, the owner of the gold shop firmly confirmed to Mr. Duong and his son that it was real gold. Because the gold bar had a special inscription, this man was curious and asked, “Where did you two get it?”
Hearing this, Mr. Duong’s face showed a little concern, and he replied, “This gold bar was inherited from my ancestors” and quickly left. After hearing the old man’s answer, the owner of the gold shop did not pay much attention to it because it is not uncommon for ancestral treasures to be passed down from generation to generation.
Suddenly rich overnight, Mr. Duong’s son anxiously advised his father to hand over the mountain of gold to the state. Meanwhile, Mr. Duong paid no heed to that suggestion and quickly planned to “exchange the gold for money” to avoid a long night full of dreams.
Thinking about this, this old man and his son brought some gold to the local bank to exchange for money. However, not long after they arrived at the bank, these two people were sent by the police to the police station.
According to Sohu, during the transaction, bank staff noticed the unusual gold bar and the suspicious attitude of Mr. Duong and his son, so they decided to call the police. A number of experts were also invited to evaluate the gold found. Finally, they concluded that the gold above originated from the Tang Dynasty in China and handed it over to the Cultural Heritage Administration of China.
According to Article 64 of China’s Law on the Protection of Cultural Relics, those who commit acts of “trading” national cultural relics for profit, private distribution or illegal appropriation of state-owned cultural relics will be prosecuted for criminal liability according to the provisions of the law.
Considering that the exchange of gold for money by Mr. Duong and his children was due to ignorance, the police only criticized and warned that if they continue to commit crimes intentionally, they will be subject to criminal liability.
It can be seen that due to ignorance and temporary greed, Mr. Duong and his son pushed themselves down the wrong path. This is also a cautionary lesson for many other people. Cultural relics left in Chinese territory are owned by the Chinese state, so if you accidentally find them, you must voluntarily hand them over to the authorities for protection and preservation. Avoid being greedy because you are likely to receive a very expensive price for your actions.
