Former Chargers star Joey Bosa has joined of the AFC's top contenders image

The Joey Bosa era in Los Angeles came to an official end last week when the team chose to cut him in order to save $25.3 million against the salary cap. It’s hard to blame the Chargers for that move, but it’s hard to see a player that once meant so much to the franchise go somewhere else.

Somewhere else will be with the Buffalo Bills as the star edge rusher agreed to a one-year deal with the team, a deal that will become official on Wednesday. As reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the deal is worth $12.6 million.

Bosa will go to a team that has been knocking on the door of the Super Bowl for years. He could be the big piece that the team was missing and was hoping to get out of Von Miller, who was also released last week.

The Chargers had one of the best defenses in the league last season and made strides to bring Khalil Mack back for another year. But so far, the team has lost several pieces from last year’s unit.

Asante Samuel Jr. and Denzel Perryman are also free agents who will likely not be back. That is five players who opened last season as starters.

The Chargers still have plenty of cap room to fill these holes. Over the Cap shows they have just over $84 million available. Only the New England Patriots have more.

Chargers fans will likely wish Bosa luck as he was one of the best defensive players in team history, but it would be tough to see him help Buffalo win a Super Bowl.
