Joshua Jackson, known for his role as Charlie Conway in The Mighty Ducks trilogy, recently shared how Emilio Estevez’s mentorship shaped his perspective on set etiquette and professionalism. During an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, guest host Brooke Shields asked Jackson about lessons he learned from Estevez while filming the beloved franchise.

Jackson, now 46, recalled that as a young actor, he was still learning how to navigate a film set. Estevez, who played Coach Gordon Bombay, became a significant influence. One defining moment occurred during the filming of D2: The Mighty Ducks in 1994. While exiting the ice after a game scene filmed in front of thousands of fans, Jackson admitted to brushing past autograph seekers without acknowledging them. Estevez immediately took him aside and delivered a firm but valuable lesson:

“Don’t ever do that again. Why do you think you get to go out there and skate in front of all these people? This is who keeps you employed. Do not ever forget who it is that you’re here for.”

Shields praised Estevez’s advice as “brilliant,” likening it to wisdom she received from her own mother about respecting every individual. Jackson acknowledged that the moment deeply resonated with him, helping to reshape his understanding of gratitude and humility as a performer.

Following his Mighty Ducks success, Jackson went on to star as Pacey Witter in Dawson’s Creek (1998-2003) and appeared in films like Cruel Intentions (1999). Today, he leads ABC’s medical drama Doctor Odyssey, portraying Dr. Max Bankman. Describing the role, Jackson shared that it’s refreshing to play a straightforward, well-intentioned character in a fast-paced Ryan Murphy production.

Doctor Odyssey airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC and is available for streaming on Hulu the following day.
