Wendy Osefo Reacts to Karen Huger’s Sentencing: ‘My Jaw Dropped’ but RHOP Remains Strong Without Her
Wendy Osefo is stunned by the news of her Real Housewives of Potomac co-star Karen Huger’s sentencing.
On Wednesday, February 26, Huger, 61, was sentenced to two years in prison, with one year suspended, following her March 2024 DUI arrest. She was immediately taken into custody after the hearing.
Speaking with PEOPLE at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 27, Osefo, 40, shared her initial reaction.
“My jaw dropped,” she admitted. “I couldn’t believe it. At the end of the day, we may have our differences, but I always wish her well, and I’m just keeping her in prayer, 100%.”
As for the show’s future, Osefo acknowledged Huger’s long-standing role on RHOP but expressed confidence in the franchise’s ability to move forward.
“With this group, we have found a way to navigate with her presence and without her presence,” she explained. “I definitely wish her well.”
Osefo also noted that despite Huger’s absence, the cast—including Gizelle Bryant, 54, Ashley Darby, 36, Stacey Rusch, Mia Thornton, and Keiarna Stewart—successfully filmed the season 9 reunion. Huger’s manager, Ryan Tresdale, previously revealed in a statement that she had entered a private recovery program ahead of the reunion. However, she still participated in a pre-recorded segment where she addressed her arrest and took responsibility for her actions.
Reflecting on the reunion, Osefo said, “I think we maneuvered in a positive way as a collective, as a unit. I wish her the best, but I think the Potomac brand still is strong.”
Fellow cast member Ashley Darby shared a heartfelt response on The Tamron Hall Show that same day, revealing that she “cried like a baby” upon learning of Huger’s sentencing.
“I really do encourage everyone to keep Karen in your prayers,” Darby added. “I really care about her.”
Meanwhile, Gizelle Bryant admitted during her Gizelle 21 Shady Questions Live event on Wednesday that she was “shook” by the news, per Us Weekly.
“This just happened today. I do not have her wigs. I am concerned. In all seriousness, I am concerned for her safety. Karen ain’t cut out for jail,” Bryant said. “I pray that she’s OK and that the Lord is with her.”
