The Sex Lives of College Girls premiere seemed to rile up some fans after it was revealed that actress Renee Rapp would be leaving the series.
Since season 1 premiered in 2021, Renee has portrayed the lovable and dynamic character Leighton Murray. However, now the Mean Girls musical star will be departing, and fans are upset about it. Several people on X, formerly Twitter, admitted they didnt want Renee off the show, and needed her back for this season.

A second complained, The Sex Lives of College Girls spending an entire episode undoing everything they did at the end of season 2 just so Reneé Rapp can leave.
Someone else noted: Just started watching the new season of The Sex Lives of College Girls and its hilarious that the way theyre going to like half write Renee off is because she really wants to take a specific math class and has to commute elsewhere.
The Max comedy brought the ladies back to Essex College for the premiere, which aired on Thursday. Although most of the main cast members reprised their roles, Renees wealthy, sarcastic, sorority girl character who was an integral part of the first two seasons, was M.I.A.
Renee announced that shed be leaving the series in July 2023. At the time she went to X to make the announcement, sharing her thanks for her time on the program.
“A lot of queer work gets belittled but playing Leighton has changed my life,” Renee wrote. “I love who i am 10x more than I did before knowing her. i hope she gave ya’ll a little bit of that too.”
Before that Renee divulged that she was bidding a farewell to focus on her music.
[I thought], ‘I can do music on the side, like, I can just hustle.’ And now Ive just kept acting, because it keeps supporting the music,” Renee confessed to Variety in November 2022. “Acting was my way into tricking everyone that I warranted attention.”
Her starring role as Leighton opened doors for her music career, eventually landing her a deal with Interscope Records. Not only did she release the debut album Snow Angel, but she also earned a 2023 Video Music Awards nomination for Best New Artist.
